Granova's Fresh Pastured Chickens: From Pasture to Plate
The chickens that we purchase as chicks, are bred over the generations to have the best feed-to-weight conversion. The Cornish Rock X is a variety known to produce rapid growth and wonderful broad breasts, and big thighs: the perfect roasting chicken.
These hardy chicks are eager to be let out to pasture during the day, and are offered interior housing at night to be safe from the stress of predators. They are always fed locally, naturally milled feed, and are offered fresh well water daily. We raise the birds in a clean, humane environment, free of antibiotics or hormones.
The chickens reach their desired weights by 8-9 weeks of age. They are then transported and processed at an organic certified, USDA Inspected facility and picked up for delivery by Granova Poultry Partners.
Some of our customers prefer to buy fresh chickens, and we are pleased to accommodate them. If you wish to buy our birds fresh, let us know by joining our mailing list and we will see that you get an announcement of our fresh chicken delivery dates.
After the initial delivery date, the birds are then sold as fresh-frozen, and are just as delicious when thawed and cooked. See Where to Purchase for a complete list of current markets that offer fresh-frozen whole roasting chickens from the farms of Granova Poultry Partners.
